Campello sul Clitunno
Campello sul Clitunno,
a Classical-style architectural treasure
Campello sul Clitunno is a town in the province of Perugia, home to the source of the River Clitunno, as well as one of the most important Late Antique monuments in Umbria, and of the Lombard cultural patrimony: the Clitunno ‘Temple’.
It is a small chapel in the form of a tetrastyle Corinthian temple in antis with two lateral porticos and wall paintings of notable quality
The Tempietto del Clitunno is thought to have been constructed in the 4th – 5th century; it is a building with unique characteristics due to the discrepancy between its Classical architectural model and its original function, linked to Christian religious observance.
Campello sul Clitunno Council is a founding partner of the Italia Langobardorum Association. This part of the UNESCO Serial Site consists of the Clitunno ‘Temple’.
